New Primary School at Hunter's Hall Park

Frequently asked questions

New primary school and catchment areas

What is the new primary school capacity?

The new primary school will have capacity for 420 primary school pupils and 128 nursery age pupils.

Why are we proposing a new site rather than expanding existing schools?

We have explored a number of options, and we believe that this site presents the best opportunity for the proposal as well as allowing us to invest in existing services.

Changes to common good

What is meant by common good?

Some of the property we own has a common good status if it had been bought by or gifted to a former Burgh. There are laws that restrict how these properties can be used or sold.

If we aim to change the use or sell an asset we need to consult on our plans. We will promote our proposals widely to ensure that local communities can comment before any final decision

Common status across Hunter’s Hall Park

To allow a new primary school, a competition standard BMX track and supporting infrastructure to be built at Hunter’s Hall Park, the common good status would need to be removed from parts of the northern end of the park.

We are not proposing to make any changes to the common good status in any other parts of the park.

Closing and relocating Greengables Nursery

What would happen to the current nursery site if it moves?

We are currently exploring potential options for the site but no decisions have yet been made.

What is the current condition of the Greengables Nursery building?

The building is currently in satisfactory condition, but would require significant future investment to avoid the condition becoming poor.

What are the future plans for the Jack Kane Centre?

We are proposing investment in the Jack Kane Centre as part of this project to help maintain and improve existing facilities.
